Louisville Cardinals: 3 Bold Predictions

Louisville Cardinals: 3 Bold Predictions

The game is at 8 p.m. and will be seen on ABC (Channel 5 in Cleveland). Louisville coach Bobby Petrino believes his defense must become stingier to finally beat the Tigers after losing the three previous meetings by a total of 15 points.

North Carolina (0-2) at Old Dominion (2-0), 3:30 p.m.: The Tar Heels have given up 82 points in two games and almost scored that many the last time they played the Monarchs, willing 80-20 in 2013.

The Cardinals' quarterback came into Clemson a year ago with gaudy stats and plenty to prove against one of the country's best defenses. It wasn't until Bryant took a hard hit that knocked the wind out of him and went to the sidelines for a few snaps that Clemson's offense got going. We'll side with the defending national champs to win this game by at least a touchdown.

At least through two games, it appears Lamar Jackson has focused on proving that his passing game is as good as his running game.

Cole Little is a senior writer for Clemson's student newspaper The Tiger.

Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson has been disrespected by the media this season. Jackson seems ready to take it another step, too, however.

Mullen played 58 snaps against Auburn in a game dominated by Clemson's defense after playing 28 in the season opener and just 115 during his entire freshman season. Las Vegas oddsmakers have Clemson listed at -3, with the over/under total set at 58.

"Just staying poised. Going into a hostile environment like Louisville, the atmosphere is going to be really insane and electric", Bryant said.

So, you know, maybe this game isn't all that exciting to you right now.

Kendall Joseph (LB): Joseph has moved over a spot from middle linebacker to weakside linebacker, the position once held by former Tiger Ben Boulware.

Third-ranked Clemson plays at No. 14 Louisville on Saturday night, and Clemson coach Dabo Swinney calls Jackson "crazy good".

The Buzz: Mayfield finished with 381 yards and three touchdowns while leading Oklahoma to its 12th consecutive win, an impressive 31-16 victory over then-No. Two of picks came in the second half and both led to touchdowns. We got our hands full with this guy.

"We always played against each other our whole life", Mullen said. "We'll have to be able to mix the run and the pass and be balanced, not just count on one phase: running or passing".

Jackson has had a fast start to the season. He's run for over 100 yards in 55.6 percent of his career games at the school. A highly-motivated Jackson will do just enough to escape the studs along Clemson's d-line.

But All-American defensive tackle Christian Wilkins has done an excellent job of taking on that leadership role. He spent the entire off-season studying film of quarterbacks like Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady to figure out what they do well in the pocket to make themselves such accurate passers. Defensive end Clelin Ferrell is off to a strong start after being named the Defensive MVP of the Fiesta Bowl previous year.

While another 11-sack performance is unlikely, the Tigers have a clear advantage over Louisville's offensive line.

"They helped (Jackson) when the Heisman", he said.

The 2016 contest between the Tigers and the Cardinals was an instant classic.

"I noticed that they've got a lot of real good players, a lot of talented athletes, a lot of talented players", Mullen said. If people in Gainesville feel they have to devote resources to Irma recovery efforts, this game won't be played on the University of Florida campus. Jackson is an incredible talent, and he'll do things, at times, that make you shake your head.

"If he's looking to pass, you'd better cover" the receivers, Venables said.
