Amazon's Echo Show can no longer show YouTube videos

Apple Holds Product Launch Event At New Campus In Cupertino

It is a little concerning that a core application has been removed and could be perceived that Google is threatened by the dominance of Amazon's Alexa in the virtual assistant market, which the firm tries to keep up with using its Google Assistant-powered Google Home device. There's a front-facing camera if you like to make video calls from bed. The new Echo is just £89.99, while the Echo Plus is £139.99.

As if that wasn't enough, Amazon also announced the Fire TV 4K. Starting today, you'll be able to make phone calls to any numbers in the US, Mexico and Canada for free.

It is now available for pre-order for $129 Dollars, but will not ship until December 19.

The Echo Spot is a smaller version of the Echo, which features a circular screen that will be able to show users what they request. Alexa is also showing up in non-Amazon devices - for example, check out GE's new Sol lamp that GeekWire reviewed earlier this month. Those of you with BMWs will also be able to talk to Alexa, starting in 2018, the vehicle maker announced. First up is an all-new swanky looking version of Echo, priced at $99, followed by Echo Plus at $150.

The message of today's big Amazon event was pretty clear: Echos for everyone, for every need in every room of every home.

This second edition to the Echo family is more compact than the original Echo, and comes in six new colors - charcoal, sandstone, heather gray, oak veneer, walnut veneer, and silver.

First released in the USA earlier this year, the Echo Show houses a seven inch screen which is used to display information.

If you're still a fan of the original Echo, do not fear.

The Alexa team is paying attention to how you're using Alexa on your Echo, too. Amazon is leaning into the fact that this is more of a dedicated speaker by offering a $50 discount to anyone buying three at a time, since the speakers can play music in sync. Dolby Atmos audio and 60 fps playback are also featured, along with a new Alexa Voice Remote to browse through channels easily. On top of that there's also a more boxy-looking, audio calling-specific model called the Echo Connect coming later this year for $34.99, enabling you to make landline calls in the United States and Canada for free.

Finally, the new Amazon Fire TV sneaked into the Echo party to show its new features like 4K Ultra HD and High Dynamic Range (HDR) support.
