Harper and Nationals top Cubs 6-3 to tie NLDS

Who made the Cubs' NLDS roster who didn't and why

Arizona Diamondbacks coach/translator Ariel Prieto did not use his Apple Watch for any "baseball-related communication" during his team's National League wild-card game against the Colorado Rockies, Major League Baseball announced. Kris Bryant laced a double over Jayson Werth's head to lead off the fourth against Gio Gonzalez, and Anthony Rizzo swatted a 2-1 offering into the outstretched right hand of a Bryant-jerseyed Cubs fan in right to give the Cubs a 3-1 lead (+.158).

The National League Division Series between the Nationals and Cubs is now knotted up at 1-1.

Winning game 2 will go a long way towards deciding the victor of this series. This has been a renaissance year for the first baseman, who had only 15 homers and 46 RBIs during an injury-plagued 2016, but led the Nationals this season with 36 homers and 108 RBIs.

In sparking a five-run rally that propelled the Nationals to a 6-3 win over the Cubs to tie the NLDS at a game apiece, Harper provided a salvo that may have changed the course of the series.

The Nationals and Cubs will play Game 3 of their best-of-five series in Chicago on Monday at 4 p.m. ET.

Harper's home run tied the game and then Ryan Zimmerman followed that up soon after with a three-run homer off of Mike Montgomery that won it.

"Our pitchers have done their part", said Zimmerman, the Nationals' elder statesman. Lester was strong against the Nationals in two starts this season, but both games ended with the left-hander receiving a no-decision.

Leave it to an unlikely source to end that drought. Hendricks used an array of off-speed pitches with his fastball never surpassing 90.5 miles per hour. The Nationals hoped to wreak havoc on the base paths on Lester, notorious for his inability and reluctance to pick runners off. He hadn't been the same since grotesquely injuring his knee hydroplaning off a wet base on August 12. This is a player who made just 7 errors in 145 games at the "Hot Corner" and sported a fielding percentage of.979 during the regular season.

In other words, don't expect a lot of runs to be scored on Friday night. Ben Zobrist moved back on the ball as if he had a beat on it, but it was only a deke. "I didn't get it down where I wanted to". You know who this person is on this side of town or that side of town.

In previous Octobers, the only luck Zimmermann and his team have experienced has been bad. "If you've been around as long as I have, there's something about everybody that maybe they don't like (you), or something about everybody that I may not like".

"Just trying too hard", said leadoff man Trea Turner, who is 0-for-8 with four strikeouts in the series.

"He was the guy", Simpson said about Baker. "I already told Jon in advance what was going on, and he was great, also".

While Strasburg was no-hitting the Cubs into the sixth, Hendricks was holding the Nats at bay.

The victory gave the Nats new life after they were facing an 0-2 hole.

For the Nationals, it may even seem like an advantage.
