Seahawks survive Rams, take NFC West lead heading into bye week

His speed and tackling ability give Seattle advantages against Todd Gurley most Rams foes don't have.

OK. It might be premature for such a bold proclamation. "Until you go back and truly look at it, I can't say and I haven't had a chance to specifically talk to Sammy about that one individual play".

The Rams dropped to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the NFC West. Plus, the Rams actually allowed more points than they scored during that four-week stretch, winning close games against slow-starting Seattle, rebuilding Tampa Bay and struggling Arizona after a 28-0 loss to the 49ers in Week 1. Engram is an excellent value, but not better than Manning, who now sits in the back-end QB2 range despite tossing 654 passing yards with six total touchdowns (one rushing) over his past two games.

No one thought the Rams were a flawless team, especially with the way the defense had been playing, but it became evident Sunday that they're not exactly Super Bowl contenders just yet. Seattle boasts a balanced offense led by quarterback Russell Wilson who is always a threat to make a play with his arm or his feet.

After the Rams moved to Los Angeles a year ago, Seattle didn't fare any better. And when teams can take advantage of that, Russell Wilson and the offense as a whole sputter as a result. Los Angeles lost a game they should have and could have have won.

Gurley, the NFL's second-leading rusher and Rams receiving leader coming in, finished with 43 yards on 14 carries plus two catches for 7 yards.

So while it's early, this certainly looks like the game that will decide the direction of the entire division. The Seahawks' last win in the Coliseum is September 11, 1994, 38-9 over the Raiders. "But you're going to know if I'm out there because I'll be out there having fun and working hard for my team". Only 51 of those yards came from a running game they've vowed to renew and revitalize this season-and only 27 of those yards on the ground came from running backs. It has worsened now with a member of the Seahawks' defensive line out injured. For the Seahawks, it has been their inability to stop the run consistently as they now rank 27th at 134 rushing yards per game allowed. They would also like for Wilson to attempt more deep passes, but doing so puts him in harm's way while standing around in the pocket. So the Seahawks should be able to move the ball, it's just a matter of extending drives long enough to get points out of them and not making any major mistakes.

The Rams win if ...

The game came down to the final play, but once the dust settles the Patriots will be satisfied as a win is a win, and the game also saw quarterback Tom Brady tie Peyton Manning and Brett Favre for the most season wins by a quarterback with 186 victories. Seriously, it might be that simple.
