Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 first impressions: flagship performance with great looks

Xiaomi finally launched the much-awaited smartphone Mi Mix 2 at an event in New Delhi today. Eventually, the phone will be available in Mi Home retail stores and other retail partners across the country in the first week of November.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 comes with huge 5.99-inch display that brings an aspect ratio of 18:9.

The company made the bottom chin narrower than the one in the original Mi Mix.

As expected, this Xiaomi phone unlike its siblings sits at a higher price range. The customer powerful flagship, the large phablet, XIAOMI surprise on stock Android and the new generation of the frameless device, defining trends in the mobile industry for several years. It has already launched in China last month with the Mi Note 3. A 3,080mAh non-removable battery is also a part of this package, and you're also getting fast charging here. Unfortunately, the device will not run MIUI 9 out of the box, instead, it has MIUI 8 based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat on top of September 2017 security patches.

However, thanks to the bezeless display - at least on three sides - the Mi device has 81% of its body covered by the screen, while the OnePlus 5 has only 73.3% of the body covered by the display. Mi Mix 2 has a 2160 x 1080 pixels resolution on the LCD IPS display.

Concluding, the Mi Mix 2 is a great product from Xiaomi's house. On the hardware side of the camera, the Mi Mix 2 packs a 12 MP camera module with phase detection autofocus and dual-LED flash. The fingerprint sensor is placed at the back below the camera panel. It will be available in a preview sale starting October 17. Designed by Philippe Starck, the Mix 2 is one fine piece of art that looks and feels premium right from the moment you hold it for the first time. The 5-Megapixel front shooter works in a way which could take some getting used to.

Its connectivity options include 4G, VoLTE, 3G, GPRS/EDGE, Wi-Fi, GPS/AGPS, GLONASS, NFC, Wi-Fi Direct WLAN, Bluetooth, USB Type-C and USB Type-C. Xiaomi is also offering 0% interest EMI scheme across all the platforms. While the original Mi MIX came with a cantilever piezoelectric ceramic acoustic technology backed virtual earpiece, the new Mi MIX 2 comes with the regular earpiece but is hidden under the display.

India did not receive the Xiaomi Mi 6 flagship phone that was launched earlier in this year in China.
