OnePlus 5T Specs, Price, And Release Date Officially Announced

OnePlus 5T Goes Official with a 6-inch Edge-to-Edge Panel and Face Unlock Feature

OnePlus today took the curtains off its latest OnePlus 5T smartphone in an event in Brooklyn, New York. The OnePlus 5T comes with the new 6-inch Full Optic AMOLED display, complete with an 18:9 aspect ratio which means it's taller and has nearly no bezels on the top and bottom. That tackles a core complaint about the OnePlus 5's dual camera system - you no longer have to sacrifice photo quality at night just to zoom into your subject.

The OnePlus 5T will cost £449 in the United Kingdom for the 6GB RAM/64GB storage model, going up to £499 for the 8GB RAM/128GB version. If the Malaysian availability is as fast as the OnePlus 5 from its date of launch, the OnePlus 5T should make it to our shores by the end of 2017.

The OnePlus 5T will launch in the USA on November 21st.

We'll keep our eyes on the details and update when we find out more, but this is likely to be the most common way to buy for many, so fingers crossed.

- HDFC Bank card users will get an instant discount of Rs 1,500 on Amazon India when they purchase the OnePlus 5T. It features a 6-inch, reduced bezel AMOLED display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and an 80.5 percent screen to body ratio. During our brief test, the display resolution at Full HD+ seemed natural, bright and vibrant. But in the last three years since the first OnePlus was launched, the company's phones are the gold standard when it comes to mid-range Android smartphones. However, the form factor of the 5T is similar to that of the OnePlus 5.

The rear otherwise looks the same, with dual cameras and a OnePlus logo. OnePlus 5T does away with OnePlus's signature touch-sensitive home button, replacing it with on-screen navigation keys.

Besides that, OnePlus kept a lot of what we liked with the original 5.

The 16-MP, f/2.0 front camera is part of the 5T's new face-recognition unlock feature. The company also says it's improved readability in sunlight by dynamically adjusting contrast - a useful feature that Samsung and other have been doing for a few years. The OnePlus 5T also offers the same 16-megapixel rear camera with IMX398 sensor wide angle lens as the OnePlus 5. We couldn't fetch any samples shot on OnePlus 5T, but we'll be sharing unedited images when we review the sample.

By changing the lens over the 20MP sensor, OnePlus is putting a focus on better low-light photographs. We're quite keen to test this particular feature. OnePlus 5T will come running Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box, but with an improved Oxygen OS that has support for stuff like Parallel Apps. The Oreo beta shouldn't be too far off - it's already being tested on the 3 and 3T, but it's nevertheless a little unfortunate that OnePlus couldn't bring Oreo at launch.

The camera interface has also been tweaked to allow more gesture-based operations than visible menus on the screen. This is the largest one ever on a OnePlus smartphone. It's still got top-of-the-line specs with a Snapdragon 835 processor, 6GB/8GB of RAM, 64GB/128GB of storage, Dash Charge fast-charging, and 16MP selfie camera.
