Did the Carolina Panthers mishandle Cam Newton's concussion examination?

Cam Newton

"That's what we didn't do". McCaffrey finished the season with 435 rushing yards, 651 receiving yards, and seven total touchdowns. New Orleans scored a touchdown on their next possession to stretch the lead to 31-19, and Newton was back on the field when the Panthers' offense regained the ball.

The comeback bid began to fizzle when Jordan induced an intentional grounding penalty on Newton, making it third-and-25 on the Saints 34 and a requiring 10-second runoff that left 20 seconds on the clock.

The Seattle Seahawks were fined $100,000, and the team's coaching and medical staffs were required to attend medical training regarding the concussion protocol, after a joint review determined the club did not properly evaluate quarterback Russell Wilson following a hard tackle during a November 9 game against Arizona.

The Saints went for a fourth-and-2 at the Carolina 47-yard line with two minutes left, but Brees was intercepted by Mike Adams at the Panthers 31.

Heading into Sunday's NFC divisional-round rematch at U.S. Bank Stadium, the Saints' future hall of fame quarterback Drew Brees says there is a drastic difference in his squad. "They stopped us on our first two drives, and then for us to come up with that big play, I think it blew the whole thing wide open. He played against us the first game, but I guess they're using his abilities a little bit more now". "I feel like plenty of times this year it was up to me". The list gets fewer and fewer of the guys that are still on the team that played with that group. The team wrote on its Twitter account: "Cam Newton has been evaluated for a concussion and cleared". "I know he still has to do his exit physicals". I'm not going to take the cowardly way and point somebody else out'.

The defense did not give Newton much help for long stretches. The 46-yard throw to Michael Thomas to set up the Saints final touchdown was incredible. "We trust each other and what we proved is we can beat you in a lot of different ways", Brees said. The demoralizing sweep was very close to actually being one of the most disappointing endings to a Saints season ever. "And we're gonna focus on Minnesota to get another win".

If the National Football League is honest about protecting the long-term health and safety of its players - or even just wants the appearance of it - it needs to dock the Panthers a draft pick.

The effectiveness of the NFL's concussion protocol is being questioned following Cam Newton's scary moment at the weekend. Newton took a hard hit on a sack by David Onyemata, started walking slowly off the field and then went back down in what Rivera said was an attempt to give backup Derek Anderson some extra warm-up throws.

New Orleans' next game comes one day before Brees turns 39 years old, and will come one week after the veteran quarterback reminded everyone he's still capable of big passing days if opposing defenses sell out to stop the Pro Bowl running back tandem of Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara.
