Winter Olympics 2018: Vonn 'won't be beaten' by 'savage abuse'

And in some ways these men who were admittedly less proficient on the trail may have better demonstrated what the Olympics is all about: uniting humanity in the pursuit of excellence. Lindsey Vonn showed Wednesday how to win bronze.

This season she has moved up the ranks in downhill racing, while continuing to dominate in her specialist slalom event. They'd seen this team before, she knows how they play.

At the same time, Choi, the anchor of the relay team, gained her second gold medal, following the title in the women's 1,500m last week.

Goggia, who got advice from Vonn over coffee in Colorado a few months ago, said: "She is the greatest".

German Madrazo of Mexico is hoisted by fellow Olympians after crossing the finish line on the Men's 15km freestyle cross-country ski race on Friday, Feb. 16, 2018.

She clocked a time of one minute 39.22 seconds to clinch gold ahead of Norway's Ragnhild Mowinckel who was just 0.09 secs behind while Vonn finished with a time of 1:39.69. Mowinckel finished just nine-hundredths back.

Vonn tweeted about claiming the bronze medal, saying it "felt like gold". "I'd have loved a gold medal, but honestly, I'm so proud".

"She asked me how to deal with the pressure and expectation and I told her, which probably helped her", Vonn said after finishing third. "She also spoke of us often in interviews", Suho said.

Fifth-place finisher Alice McKennis of the USA praised Vonn's "day-to-day perseverance". It's the third Olympic medal overall for Vonn.

At 33, Vonn became the oldest Olympic medalist in the women's downhill, topping Austria's Michaela Dorfmeister, who was 32 when she won gold at the 2006 Games.

Vonn won super-G bronze in Vancouver in 2010.

It has also been a hard few months for the American because of the "savage abuse" she has received on social media.

It takes years of dedication and skill to get to the Olympics.

MILLER TIME, PART TWO: Is this Miller's first and last Olympics with NBC? All the same, they are, genuinely, friends.

"I still don't realize I'm first", Goggia said. I know everyone expects a lot from me, and I expect even ... more of myself ... however there's only one thing I can guarantee; I will give everything I have tomorrow. "Sofia just skied better than I did".

"It was tough to contemplate this being my last Olympic downhill", Vonn said afterward.

"I came here with one goal - to beat Lindsey", said Goggia, who had beaten Vonn in the Olympic test events on the same hill. "It's the perspective that I think is important".

"For all the people that say bad things there are ten more that say nice things, ” she said".

Goggia gave a shrug after crossing the line knowing that Vonn, the most decorated female skier of all time, was going to be going out two spots behind her. "But I have no regrets".

The skater, however, made a major contribution in having the female team pass preliminaries for the 3,000m relay earlier, which indicated the weaker-than-expected performances at individual events were due more to bad luck than her slump.

"It's sad. It's my last downhill". I struggled to keep it all together, but I left it all on the mountain. I have so much fun. I love what I do. But - I don't know, I'm proud. "But I'm proud to be competing for my country, giving it all and proud to come away with a medal". "And to me, I feel like I won a gold medal".
