The second win in as many days puts John Beilein's team in Saturday's semifinals against in-state rival Michigan State (2:00 ET, CBS).

MI first-year coach Mel Pearson feels the turnaround started when he named sophomore Hayden Lavigne as the No. 1 goaltender. Just two minutes later, Iowa extended its lead back to 10, and in the end, that was enough for the Hawkeyes. The Hawkeyes and Gophers tied for third in the regular-season standings.

It was clear what Iowa's strategy was in its first-round matchup Wednesday at the Big Ten Tournament. Luka Garza (20) and Tyler Cook (19) also reached double figures for Iowa, the front-court duo connecting on 14 of 18 field goal attempts. Facing one of the Big Ten's best 3-point shooting teams, they played some of their best 3-point defense of the season.

But a blowout loss at Maryland was followed by a late collapse against Rutgers on the road and then an epic fall in the second half against second-ranked Michigan State.

MI continued to enjoy NY with a December 2013 victory over Stanford at the Barclays Center in New Jersey. Senior guard Bryant McIntosh is second on the team with 12.0 points, while leading the team with 5.1 assists per game. The Badgers will need a victory to keep any hopes of an NCAA Tournament berth alive. It's an important game that features two of the hottest teams in the Big Ten. Robinson hit a 3-pointer off a screen on the top of the key, grabbing a lead MI wouldn't relinquish.

And, a Pikiell trademark, they always play dogged defense and rebound relentlessly. No. 12 seed Iowa will face fifth-seeded MI on ThursdayBy RALPH D.

These two teams met twice already this season.

Gustafson, a native of Port Wing and a South Shore graduate, is just the fifth Hawkeye in program history to be named Big Ten Player of the Year and the first to do so since 1998. As long as it takes care of business against Iowa, Michigan will likely be awarded a seed in the 5-7 range.

MI leaned on its defense, holding Iowa to eight points over the first 10 minutes while extending its lead to 53-46 following a Jordan Poole steal and dunk with 12:35 to go.
