United Nations rejects Russian attempt to condemn U.S. 'aggression' on Syria

France is urging Russian Federation to join a push for a political solution in Syria after joint U.S., French and British attacks on Syrian chemical weapons sites.

"Today, the nations of Britain, France, and the United States of America have marshaled their righteous power against barbarism and brutality", Trump said.

Trump took to Twitter and thanked his allies in the attack as well.

In Syria, government supporters appeared relieved that the airstrikes were not more extensive.

As of yet, there has been no military response from Syria.

She said that unlike the airstrikes carried out in April 2017 against Assad, when the USA targeted Syria's Shayrat Airbase in Homs in retaliation for a chemical attack on Khan Shaykhun, a town in the northwestern province of Idlib, the latest airstrikes were aimed at neutralizing chemical weapons research and development facilities.

Mr Juncker said the world "has the responsibility to identify and hold accountable those responsible" for that kind of attack. Eastern time that the first wave of airstrikes were over.

"After examining the videos and images of victims published online, they (intelligence services) were able to conclude with a high degree of confidence that the vast majority are recent and not fabricated", the report said.

Aides told Reuters news agency that Trump's attitude changed when he was shown images of Syrians allegedly killed by the chemical weapons last Saturday. CGTN's Nick Harper reports from NY.

"Mission Accomplished" he remarked, as it was announced all USA missiles hit three targets that were involved in the production, development and storage of chemical weapons.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said he supported the strike in a statement issued an hour after Trump's announcement.

"In the past year and a half Russian Federation has fully restored Syria's air defence system and continues to further upgrade it", Rudskoi said.

Russian Federation circulated a draft resolution calling for condemnation of the military action, but Britain's ambassador said the strikes were "both right and legal" to alleviate humanitarian suffering in Syria.

It was released after coordinated air strikes by Britain, France and the United States on Syrian government targets overnight. "Instead of weakening the government, it only made it stronger", he said. In the days since the suspected attack, the president has repeatedly warned that a military strike was on the table.

The attacks on Saturday came in response to a suspected chemical weapons attack in the former rebel stronghold of Douma last weekend.

"These are not the actions of a man", Trump said in televised remarks announcing the strikes. He described the difference between the 2017 strikes on Syria verses Friday night's joint operation.

On Saturday, Defense spokeswoman Dana White and Director of the Joint Staff Lt. Gen. Kenneth McKenzie Jr. held a press conference at the Pentagon that laid out the details of the Syrian missile strike by the US, United Kingdom and France on Friday night. Friday night's strikes targeted the Syrian regime's chemical weapon research, development and production capabilities.
